Welcome Dr. Renee McCarthy to the Team!
Dr. Renee McCarthy is a native of Southern California and grew up on property that has been in her family since the 1700’s. She knew she wanted to be a veterinarian as far back as she can remember. Growing up, she had a variety of pets that she oversaw caring for, including dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, pigs, lambs and a horse. After graduating from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999, she spent most of her time working as a general practitioner, although in her early years, she enjoyed filling in at the local urgent care working overnight shifts.
She spent 4 1/2 years living and working on Oahu but returned home to be close to her family. She is passionate about shelter/rescue medicine and is a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady. She spent many years helping both the cats and the dogs at Mission Viejo Animal Services. She is a member of the AVMA, Feline VMA (formerly the AAFP), CVMA, and SCVMA, and still enjoys taking care of your fur babies after over 25 years in the field.
She lives with her husband, David, and a variety of small rescue dogs and cats, and occasionally other critters in need. When not at the hospital, she enjoys traveling (usually somewhere to see exotic animal species), walking on the numerous nature trails in the area, and scary books and movies (the scarier the better!)
